Born On 13-12-1928 to Sri Datla Balarama Raju & Smt.Subhadrayamma at Allavaram Village In East Godavari District Andhra Pradesh. He left to the heavenly abode on 13th November 2010 at the age of 82 years after brief illness.
His Father Sri.Datla Balarama Raju Was a Freedom Fighter who was Suitably Rewarded by the grateful people of Andhra Pradesh by electing him from Narsapur Constituency to the Lok Sabha for two terms 1962 to 1971 after which he quit politics without contesting again.
With the blessings of Sri. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao & His Brother Sri.N.Trivikrama Rao Sri.D.V.S.RAJU Launched his production house D.V.S. PRODUCTIONS IN 1964 and went on to produce several movies starring NTR namely Mangamma Sapatham, Pidugu Ramudu, Tikka Sankarayya, Gandikota Rahasyam, Chinnanaati Snehitulu, Dhanama Dhaivama and many more with other leading Heroes & Heroines. His Telugu Film JEEVANA JYOTHI Starring Shoban Babu and Vanisri Directed by K.Vishwanath Garu bagged FOUR NANDI AWARDS IN 1975 FROM THE ANDHRA PRADESH GOVERNMENT For Best Picture, Best Director, Best Hero, and Best Heroine. And Also Film Fare Award for best Film 1975.
Wedding Bells Rang For Sri, D.V.S.RAJU in 1948 when he married his own maternal uncle's daughter Smt. Anasuya Devi a great lady with a million qualities to be adored. They were blessed with three daughters and two sons- each one a replica of their great family heritage.
In the year 1966 The South Indian Film Chamber Of Commerce Members Elected him As Hon. Secretary. He worked relentlessly for the cause of the film industry. He was Instrumental in starting a school for Film Acting first of its kind in the south in the SIFCC premises and he was the correspondent of the institute. The Institute can proudly boast of having produced best talents like Rajanikanth, Chiranjeevi, Rajendra Prasad, Bhanu Chander, Sudhakar,Narayana Rao,and many others.
He was appointed as Chairman of National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) a Govt Of India Undertaking for two terms. In 1982 As NFDC Chairman, he was instrumental in co-funding the making of Richard Attenborough's Oscar-award winning film Gandhi which won eight Academy Awards.
He was elected President of the Film Federation of India (1979-80). He had also served as Chairman of the A.P. State Film Development Corporation. He served as Jury Member at the 15th National Film Awards. With The Support of Then Hon'ble Chief Minister Of A.P. Sri NTR Garu and other film industry stalwarts he was instrumental in conducting successfully the International Film Festival for the first time in Hyderabad in January 1986.
He along with other Telugu film stalwarts played a key role in shifting the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad. He is The Founder President Of Film Nagar Cultural Centre (FNCC) in Hyderabad. He was the recipient of the Padma Shri Award ( 2001), Raghupathi Venkaiah Award (1988) and the Bhishma Award(1995) in recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema.
